World Press Photo 2024
The highest award of the 2024 World Press Photo Contest has been granted this year to photography documenting irreversible personal loss in Gaza, family and dementia in Madagascar, the lives of migrants in Mexico, and the trauma of war in Ukraine.
These four global winners were selected from 24 regional winners, who were chosen from over 61,000 submissions. The entries were first evaluated by six regional juries, and all winners were selected by a global jury made up of the regional jury chairs along with the global jury chair.
About World Press Photo
World Press Photo was founded in the Netherlands in 1955. Over the years, countless conflicts, wars, and other significant events have been documented by press photographers. Each year, independent jury members undertake the daunting task of reviewing tens of thousands of photos to create a selection that will stand the test of time. Aware that it is impossible to include every story and perspective, they deliberate, debate, and discuss to select stories that matter and reward exceptional work.
