Icons - William Rutten

ICONS is the first retrospective of photographer William Rutten with an impressive collection of his photographic oeuvre. In 35 years he has had celebrities from all over the world in front of his lens, from Henny Vrienten to Waylon and from Al Pacino to Lady Gaga.

pop music

In the 1970s, Rutten was particularly intrigued by photos of artists in magazines. And dreamed of making them himself. His career started with photographing Het Goede Doel. He started working for the Hitkrant and therefore could be found at Countdown a lot. In the 1990s, Rutten was a in-house photographer for 2 Unlimited and traveled the world with them.

Down to earth

As a passionate photographer who shoots in his own creative way and with an eye for detail, he has become one of the most well-known Dutch photographers. A self-made man who, with his down to earth mentality and his camera, makes contact with celebrities from all over the world.

Exhibition

The ticket includes the audio tour. In it, Rutten tells the stories about his works and, in a film made especially for the exhibition, he takes visitors to his photo studio. A small studio has been created for the exhibition where the photographer - if he is present in Museum Hilversum - captures visitors. The lucky ones receive their portraits and can take it home with them.

ICONS is an ode to his mother: 'She gave me the opportunity to choose my own path. Her advice: do the things you love and go for it.”
